Back in the fall I got to do this amazing project with Borillo Entertainment. It was a charity fundraiser for a place called the Red Line Gallery. Several of us got to create these amazing projects because there was money to do so. It allowed me to do way more because I had SPACE to do so. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Red Line Gallery, they are a community gallery that have artist in residence spaces, teach local displaced citizens needing a creative outlet, and gallery space. They are in the Five Points area just off of Broadway & Arapahoe St.
I had three days to create a vignette from a cardboard box they had laying around. There was some contention about the body painting. In the end the patron of the event helped to convince the gallery that it was a worthwhile art. I got to know PJ, the director of the gallery during those three days. He got to educate me about Red Line and what they do there. I got to share about body painting and how our art can be so much more than just the idea that we are night club entertainers. At the end of those three days PJ invited me apply to be an artist in residence.

Today the application notification came in my email box.
The first thing on the list for the application is the Artist Statement. It is the first time in weeks that I have felt moved to do anything substantial. I have felt a terrible inertia, and now I feel wonderfully quickened! So here I am looking up how to write one because it has been so long since I've done one... here goes nothing. I will let you know what I come up with. Stay tuned.
